Rural Alberta Demography 2011 - (original link)
A summary of Alberta population change between 2006 and 2011 was recently posted to Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development’s website. Key observations include:
- Rural grew by 4.1 per cent
- Rural was 19.4 per cent of total population
- Stronger linkages to urban centres was positively correlated with growth
- Alberta has a larger percentage of rural residents than Canada as a whole
- Alberta’s rural population grew faster than the rural Canadian average
- Alberta was second only to Manitoba among provinces in rural growth
- Alberta had three of the top five fastest growing economic regions (ERs)
- All of Alberta’s ERs performed better than 50 per cent of all ERs in Canada
- At the Census Division level, population growth was more varied, ranging from 27.2 per cent in Fort McMurray to a -4.9 per cent in Hanna
