Launch of Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund

Part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan 2012, the Government of Canada has launched the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF). This two year national program will invest $150 million to rehabilitation and improve existing community infrastructure across Canada, with over $46 million being invested to Western Canada.
 
CIIF will support, on a cost-shared basis, repairs and improvements to existing community infrastructure accessible to the public.
 
Projects that are eligible for funding include:
•    community and cultural centres,
•    parks,
•    libraries,
•    recreation facilities (local arenas, swimming pools, sports fields, and other types of recreation facilities),
•    tourism facilities having a local impact, and
•    other existing community infrastructure that have a local impact.

Organizations that are eligible for funding are:
•    local or regional governments or related agencies,
•    provincial entities that provide municipal-type services to communities,
•    non-profit organizations, and
•    First Nation governments, including Band or Tribal Councils or their legally-designated representatives.

Local, regional, and First Nation governments, as well as community not-for-profit organizations with project that can be completed before March 31, 2014 are also invited to apply for funding.
 
Applications are being accepted until August 2, 2012.
